LAS VEGAS—University Medical Center officials are expected to present new contracts with medical groups and health care providers that would save Clark County about $1.3 million per year.
The hospital has been renegotiating the contracts to help ease its $39 million in debt.

Chinese Woman Contracts Bird Flu From Poultry

BEIJING — A 21-year-old woman in central China has been infected by the H5N1 strain of bird flu in the country’s eighth reported case this year, the Health Ministry said.
The woman, a farmer in the central province of Hunan, fell ill Jan. 23 after handling poultry that died from the virus, the ministry said on its Web site. She was in stable condition, it said.
