Screening, tobacco control drive cancer declines

Declining incidence and death rates for some of the nation’s most common cancers mean physicians can take a deep breath, pat themselves on the back and keep up the good work.

Health minister cool on federal control proposal

A FEDERAL takeover of all health services has been proposed by the
Government’s chief advisory body on health reform, but the health minister has
declined to endorse the move.
Health Minister Nicola Roxon described proposals by the National Health and

FDA cites Bayer for misleading birth control ads

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Two television commercials for Bayer AG’s birth control pill Yaz give a misleading impression of its benefits, U.S. health regulators warned the company in a letter released on Tuesday.
The ads wrongly suggest the pills are approved for relieving premenstrual syndrome, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a letter dated October 3. The ads also minimize the drug’s risks, the agency said.
