WASHINGTON — Councilman Marion Barry has been ordered to appear in court April 2 on his repeated delinquency filing his income taxes.
Barry is at Howard University Hospital recovering from Friday’s kidney transplant. After federal prosecutors asked a judge to put Barry in jail for failure to file his 2007 taxes on time, the former mayor said his medical condition distracted him from his taxpayer duties.

A 30-year-old La Quinta man accused of exchanging drugs for sex with a boy over the course of a four-year period is being prosecuted on felony charges, authorities said Wednesday.
Christopher Charles Meyerson pleaded not guilty on Jan. 9 to the six-count complaint, which alleges the crimes began in May 2004, when the victim was under 14 years old.

Pfizer Inc.’s
(PFE) proposed osteoporosis drug
before issuing a final decision, the company said Tuesday.
The extension will allow the FDA to review data on Fablyn, a drug proposed to
treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, from a five-year study.
The agency was originally supposed to make a decision on whether to approve
Fablyn by the end of October. The extension means a decision won’t come until

I read with interest of the rape conviction of former Matsqui prison guard Balkar Singh Basra. I don’t questions the conviction, but I do question the accuracy (and relevance) of the judge’s finding that the intoxication was not by alcohol.
As an emergency physician, I have tested for “date rape” drugs (including GHB, rohypnol and ketamine) more than 100 times, often at the patient’s request, and have yet to see a positive result.

CHICAGO, Jan 7 (Reuters) – French drugmaker Ipsen (
IPN.PA

said on Wednesday U.S. health regulators have extended the date
to April 13, 2009, for the initial review of the company’s
botulinum toxin of type A product, Reloxin.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not issue a
specific request, the company said.
Ipsen also said FDA confirmed that the manufacturing
process for the product in its Wales facility is in
compliance.
