Ind. pilot expected to stay in Fla. hospital
PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — An Indiana financial manager suspected of staging his death in a plane crash is expected to remain hospitalized until early next week.
U.S. Marshals say 38-year-old Marcus Schrenker was in stable condition Friday at a Tallahassee hospital, recovering from a suicide attempt.

Fifty-nine percent of U.S. companies intend to combat rising health-care costs in 2009 by raising workers’ deductibles, copays or out-of-pocket expenses, according to a survey by the Mercer consulting firm.
The survey projects health-care costs will rise on average by 5.7 percent next year for workers and their employers. That’s equal to this year’s increase.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) – Construction is expected to be completed by August on a seven-story children’s hospital that will help serve the growing youth population in Mesa.
Banner Children’s Hospital opened within the confines of Banner Desert Medical Center in 2004. Plans are for the new building to begin offering services by November.

ANTIOCH — A 20-year-old man who crashed his car into a tree late Monday remained in serious condition at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek on Tuesday, Antioch police said.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. along Hillcrest Avenue near Wild Horse Road. The driver, whose name was not released, was the sole occupant of a northbound Honda sedan that swerved off the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

GALESBURG, Ill. — Defense attorneys representing a man charged with killing eight people in Illinois and Missouri last summer say an evaluation of his mental fitness will not be ready for a month.

GALVESTON — Five emergency room doctors lost their jobs Monday at the University of Texas Medical Branch hospital, part of a purge that will downgrade its trauma center status and contribute to an emergency room shortage in the Houston area, emergency room administrators said.
