FDA extends warning on peanut butter

(01/19/09)–Avoid eating peanut butter products like cakes, cookies crackers and ice cream.
That warning comes from the Food & Drug Administration as an investigation into a deadly outbreak of salmonella contamination continues.

Texas extends health coverage for children

AUSTIN
— Texas is extending Medicaid coverage for 90 days for 34,000 children because Hurricane Ike may have prevented their families from re-enrolling, state officials said.
“Given the widespread damage and disruption in services caused by Ike, we believe it’s wise to err on the side of caution and give these families more time to renew their children’s coverage,” said Albert Hawkins, executive commissioner, Texas Health and Human Services.

Area health clinic for needy families extends hours

Last night, ironically around the time residents of downtown Jersey City were holding a vigil for a deceased storeowner who was killed in a robbery last week, a man was shot dead on Rutgers Avenue in the Greenville section.
It was Jersey City’s third homicide so far this year.
