Matters of the Heart: A Women's Health Forum/sold out event

PORTSMOUTH — Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America. It is for that reason Portsmouth Regional Hospital developed and held a day-long program to inform women about heart disease, how it affects them and how to prevent it.

Health forum for black men

Kay Patterson, a former state senator from Columbia, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. He will share his rare story — less than 1 percent of breast cancers occur in men — with other men at the first African American Men’s Health Forum set for Saturday in West Columbia.

Universal health care was the dominant theme during a public forum held this morning to gather recommendations for improving health care in the United States.
