By the looks of swimming pool supplier Swim Clean Utah’s busy calendar, pool owners are rushing to comply with a new federal law requiring systems to prevent swimmers from becoming trapped, injured or killed by drains.
Pools that do not comply by Friday, when the law takes effect, risk being closed.

UPTON – Police arrested a town man early yesterday morning on a count of domestic assault and battery after the victim came to the police station to report the incident, police said.
David McQuilkin, 55, of 170 Mechanic St., was also charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a police officer. He was arrested about 12:45 a.m. at his house, police said.

Fairfield police are investigating a shooting outside a sports bar Friday night that hospitalized a man with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting was reported at about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Delaware and Jackson streets, according to police.
Arriving officers found several bullet casings and expended rounds in the parking lot at the corner of those streets and behind the Sportsman Bar.

OAKLAND — Police on Tuesday displayed 33 guns seized in two unrelated investigations last week, and highlighted a significant drop in major crimes this year.
