Police investigating patient deaths at a Dunbartonshire Hospital have set up a major incident room, it has emerged.
An outbreak of Clostridium difficile at Vale of Leven Hospital caused the deaths of nine patients and was a contributory factor in nine more.
Strathclyde Police has dedicated 16 CID and uniformed officers to look into the incident.

A murder inquiry is continuing after a 17-year-old youth died after an “unprovoked attack” in a city centre.
He suffered serious head injuries in the assault in St Mary Street, Cardiff at around 1840 GMT on Friday.
The teenager was walking with a 21-year-old friend when he became involved in an altercation. He died in hospital the following day from head injuries.

Services at one of England’s leading children’s hospitals are being investigated after complaints from its own consultants.
A review of services at Birmingham Children’s Hospital was commissioned after management meetings in August.
The Observer newspaper said the review has been highly critical but the hospital said the paper was not quoting an official report from the review.

An investigation into the cause of an explosion that ripped through a block of flats in Wigan, seriously injuring two men, has been launched.
The men, aged 26 and 43, were rescued after the blast on Blake Close, Worlsey Mesnes at 2120 GMT on Saturday.
Residents from 36 neighbouring properties were moved out and specialist search teams scoured the debris to see if anyone was trapped.

The Health Information and Quality Authority has published the terms of reference for its independent investigation into the quality of care at Ennis General Hospital.

A Justice Department inquiry into Stryker’s marketing of human bone growth products has resulted in guilty pleas by former company sales representatives.
One former sales official pleaded guilty two weeks ago, and another one did in November, court documents show.
