Superior Court Judge Alfred Dempsey sentenced a cop-killer to life in prison without parole Monday, saying the defendant’s psychiatric evaluations made seeking the death penalty unnecessary.

A Gloucester policeman was released yesterday from the hospital almost a week after a natural gas leak fueled an explosion that leveled his home.
Wayne Sargent, 59, was discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he had been recovering from burns to his face and hands and a gash to the head.
Gloucester Police Chief John Beaudette said that he spoke to Sargent yesterday by phone.

MARTINEZ, Calif.—A California Highway Patrol officer has been hospitalized after his car flipped over near Martinez as he tried to assist another officer involved in a chase.
Authorities say the crash took place around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when the officer’s patrol car ran off State Route 4.

Oscar Grant, 22, was shot once while on the platform after a BART officer drew his gun during what officials called a volatile and chaotic scene. A gravely wounded Grant was taken to Highland Hospital, where he died Thursday morning, the Alameda County coroner’s office said.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 16-year-old in a stolen vehicle smashed into a police car during a chase, killing one of two officers in the cruiser, authorities said Saturday.
Andre Butler was charged Saturday with third-degree murder and vehicular homicide in the death of Officer Isabel Nazario, 40.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAAY) – A lawsuit has been filed after a Huntsville police officer was accused of planting drugs in a man's car.
Quincy Turner filed suit against the city of Huntsville, Officer Wesley Little and Chief Henry Reyes.
