ALBION — Judy Christopher remembers the naysayers 18 years ago when she and her husband Gene opened Phoenix Fitness in Albion. Many people doubted the small town could support a health club.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has been released from the hospital 12 days after undergoing a heart transplant.
Richardson left Carolinas Medical Center on Thursday after quickly regaining his strength following the surgery on Feb. 1. A team spokesman said Richardson has responded well and will continue to be monitored by doctors.
The full recovery period takes between three and six months.

The operator of Community Hospital of Los Gatos, Tenet Healthcare, announced Thursday it will close the hospital and emergency room on April 10, six weeks before the new owner takes over.
The news came as a surprise because Tenet was expected to continue operations until its lease expires on May 31. El Camino Hospital of Mountain View plans to takeover Community’s operations on June 1.

BOSTON (AP) — Harry Mangurian Jr., a former owner of the Boston Celtics and renowned horse breeder, has died of leukemia. He was 82.
The funeral home handling his arrangements said Mangurian died Sunday. He died at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after an eight month battle with the disease.

TREMONT, Pa.—A woman who owned a purported animal sanctuary in eastern Pennsylvania and is accused of letting animals go hungry faces more than 100 counts of animal cruelty.
Police say 49-year-old Virginia Eilene Justiniano stockpiled donated cat food and resold some of it to buy heroin and other drugs. Since 1996, she ran the Cats With No Name sanctuary near Pine Grove, about 75 miles west-northwest of Philadelphia.
