Michael Phelps Finds Secret to Post-Olympics Success: Drugs

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN- A few months ago, swimmer Michael Phelps was largely considered to be the most annoying living human being on earth. Obnoxiously successful at the 2008 Summer Olympics due to years of intense, some say obsessive, training, Phelps became the very definition of “trying too hard.” Worse still, his grotesquely elongated face was everywhere- talk shows, sit-coms, and the occasional feminine hygiene product. Even cave-dwelling hermits Read the rest of this entry »

Drugs claim could spell disaster for Michael Phelps

Who cares. He’s human after all. Has he failed a Drugs test? NO. OK – let the Police look at it and make their minds up. Anything else is just window dressing.
James, London,
Just so you all know, this is not only a big deal because of his sponsorships, etcetera.
Weed is on the prohibited substances list put out by the world anti-doping agency for high-level athletes.

A-Rod & Michael Phelps: The Sports Media Must Be on Drugs

February 17, 2009
In
recent weeks, there have been two major news stories involving
world-class athletes and drugs, and both have caused some truly bizarre
reactions. Alex Rodriguez took steroids, and Michael Phelps smoked
marijuana. Both did things they shouldn’t have, and I’m not defending
either, but the reactions many have had to them have either been
disproportionate, bizarre or downright laughable.
Let’s start with A-Rod. Read the rest of this entry »

Drugs claim could spell disaster for Michael Phelps

Looks like Michael should choose his friends more wisely. That was his biggest mistake. He’s an awesome athlete and still a good role model. Owning up to what happened and like one of the posters said, not hiding behind a bunch of lawyers, he’s an honorable young man!
Lea, Houston,
Michael is an incredible athlete, and an incredible human being. I am the mother of three 20-something children. They are wonderful, but have done some stupid things. Read the rest of this entry »

Phelps and Rodriguez Show It Pays to Take Drugs

What does it say that Michael Phelps, the all-time Olympic gold medal champion, and Alex Rodriguez, baseball’s highest paid player, have both consumed illegal substances?
Of course, I’m not saying drug use is “good.” I’m saying it’s ubiquitous. If people can’t develop skill at managing drug use — along with many other potentially addictive involvements in life — they face rough sledding. Life preservation is a more basic instinct than the instinct Read the rest of this entry »

Phelps Incident a Reflection of More Drugs

Gold medals and marijuana pipes usually aren’t held by the same set of human hands.
That’s why the picture of Michael Phelps in a British tabloid last week partying it up came as such a surprise and disappointment.
After doing his country proud in Beijing, he followed that record-setting performance the same way he did in 2004:
by breaking the law.
Phelps does deserve the benefit of the doubt after admitting wrongdoing and accepting his Read the rest of this entry »

War on Drugs: Phelps Smoked Out by Sponsors

The photo, which immediately became the topic of the day in the sports world, as well as the rest of the world, has lead to eight arrests, public statements from Phelps, attempts at damage control from his handlers and actions from Phelps’ sponsors.
Speedo, Hilton Hotels, Omega and Subway are among the many sponsors who Read the rest of this entry »

Michael Phelps Proves He's Not Great at Everything; Bombs Badly as

Okay, so most of them haven’t been that great. But
might have been the funniest person on the show — no, I’m not just talking hosts — since Will Ferrell left.
Expecting that sort of show from Phelps seemed a bit aggressive. Being funny, after all, on live national television is not easy. But there’s a big difference between not being funny and just being flat-out unentertaining and, well, flat.
Phelps was both on Saturday. One skit was funny Read the rest of this entry »
