Lonoke Community Center kicked off Jan. 30 a fitness program designed specifically for senior citizens called Silver Sneakers.
Margie Croxton, Silver Sneakers Instructor, said the class goals are to increase physical and mental health, work on balance, flexibility, and muscle strength and learn how to take of your body.

South Carolina has the ninth-highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the nation, but 25 percent of those infected don’t realize they carry the virus, Beaufort health care providers say.
Getting that 25 percent into a clinic for diagnosis and treatment is the goal of eight Lowcountry medical school students who are launching a local HIV/AIDS awareness program as part of Monday’s World AIDS Awareness Day.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) A health insurance program meant to help middle-income families who have youngsters with serious illnesses needs to be reworked to reach more people, officials said.
Gov. Ted Strickland signed an executive order in April creating the Childrens Buy-In Program. Since then, four children have qualified and two have been enrolled.

The Orange Planet Athletic Club in Pleasant Hill is now certified to offer the Silver Sneakers fitness program for seniors.

BOISE, Idaho – A regional program to train medical students in Seattle is yielding more Idaho doctors, but fewer of them are practicing family medicine and helping alleviate a statewide shortage of primary care physicians.
The number of Idaho medical students who graduated from the program and returned home to work in primary care has fallen 12 percent since 2005, according to a state Board of Education report this month.
