Beasley pleaded no contest to raping two women under color of authority while on duty and in uniform as an LAPD officer in the early 1990s. His actions cost the city of Los Angeles $290,000 in civil settlements for his victims.

Rapist worked at LA County hospitals despite reviews of record

The employment of a convicted rapist at a hospital indicates a significant breakdown in the county’s vetting of health department staffers, county officials said. Perhaps most seriously, it raises questions about how many more county employees have criminal histories incompatible with their jobs, something county supervisors have yet to address.
“We had real pinheads working for us,” said Supervisor Gloria Molina, referring to managers who cleared Read the rest of this entry »

Rapist working at hospital: How does this happen?

The case of a convicted rapist working alone and unsupervised with women in hospitals is prompting county officials to take another look at how they have handled the employment of people with serious criminal histories.

LOS ANGELES—A convicted rapist was allowed to work with female patients unsupervised at Los Angeles County hospitals for 10 years, even though managers knew about his criminal record.
The Los Angeles Times, citing records and interviews, reported Friday that Gariner Beasley raped a woman in 1991 while on duty as a Los Angeles police officer, but he was still hired at County-USC Medical Center as an X-ray technician after he got out of prison.

Rapist fired from LA health facility—again

LOS ANGELES—Officials say a convicted rapist who was fired from his job as a medical technician was then rehired to do the same work at a Los Angeles health clinic.
Now 48-year-old Gariner Beasley has been fired from that job, too.
The Los Angeles Times says Beasley raped a woman in 1991 while on duty as a Los Angeles police officer, but he was still hired at County-USC Medical Center as an X-ray technician after he got out of prison.

County rehired convicted rapist shortly after firing him

about Beasley’s employment history was incomplete.
“The supervisor is very, very concerned,” said Tony Bell, spokesman for Supervisor Mike Antonovich. “We are trying to get a full accounting so that we can hold those responsible to account.”
The fact that Beasley, who apparently came back into the county health system through an outside contractor, was back on the payroll raises numerous troubling questions.

Rapist GP to practise again

A RAPIST doctor banned indefinitely amid public outcry over his serial misconduct has won the right to treat patients again, despite a history of relapses.
Dr Sabi Lal, 49, can work in Victorian clinics or hospitals, even though the Medical Practitioners Board opposed his return and considers him unfit to practise.
A tribunal ruled this month the GP be reinstated to the medical register, overturning the board’s decision that Dr Lal should remain Read the rest of this entry »
