AP Source: Gov's budget targets kids' health plan

OLYMPIA, Wash. —
State payments for disabled people who can’t work and plans to increase health coverage for kids will be among the spending cuts in Gov. Chris Gregoire’s budget proposal, a senior state official has told The Associated Press.

Grady Hospital was source of Legionnaires’

Water tests confirmed Thursday that two units at Grady Memorial Hospital were the source of the bacteria that caused Legionnaires’ disease in four patients.
“We’re comfortable right now that it’s only the two units,” said Dr. Leon Haley, deputy senior vice president of medical affairs at Grady.

Testicles 'are stem cell source'

The cells in a man’s testicles may be able to do a lot more than just make sperm – they could provide any cell type in his body.
German and UK research suggests that sperm cells can be coaxed into stem cells with similar properties to those found in the embryo.
The study, in Nature, raises hopes eventually of a supply of “repair tissue” for other parts of the body.

CDC, public health officials working to determine source of outbreak

– King Nut Companies issued a total recall of peanut butter that it distributes Saturday amid fears of a salmonella outbreak that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said has infected 399 people in 42 states.
Ohio-based King Nut acknowledged in a statement that salmonella had been found in an open 5-pound tub of King Nut peanut butter.
