Nevada lawmakers speak out against mental health budget cuts

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Lawmakers are challenging Gov. Jim Gibbons proposals to close 11 of the state’s 21 rural mental health clinics and increase the number of patients per staff member at mental health facilities in Reno and Las Vegas.
Mental health services would decrease 5 percent to $473 million, which legislators say jeopardizes the health and safety of Nevada communities, especially rural ones.

Residents with mounting medical bills speak at hearing
