New Jersey hospital system cutting 180 jobs

A New Jersey hospital system is eliminating 180 jobs, citing the strain of the national economic downturn.
Denville-based Saint Clare’s Health Systems said Wednesday that 100 workers are being laid off immediately and another 80 full-time positions would be eliminated in a move to reduce costs and improve productivity.
Leslie Hirsch, St. Clare’s president and chief executive officer, said the jobs were eliminated across the four-hospital system.

GARY — A toxicology report completed Thursday shows a Merrillville teacher had cocaine in her system when she and her son died in a crash that left her older boy critically injured two weeks ago.
