SACRAMENTO, Calif.
— State Controller John Chiang remained in a Texas hospital Tuesday after experiencing chest pains while visiting family for the holidays last week.
Chiang was expected to remain under observation at Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest in Fort Worth for a few more days, said his spokeswoman, Hallye Jordan.

DALLAS
— Texas health officials confirm salmonella was found in peanut meal at a Texas plant owned by the company at the center of the national salmonella outbreak.
Doug McBride, a spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services, said Wednesday that the salmonella found in a sample taken from the Peanut Corp. of America’s Plainview plant Feb. 12 is the same strain as the nationwide outbreak.

Influenza cases have been on the rise for the past week, local doctors say, with more patients coming in every day. The good news is that this year’s vaccine is a close match for the strains circulating this season, meaning people who have been vaccinated have a good chance of avoiding the virus.

— A man has died a day after an oil refinery explosion and fire in Texas.
The mother of 49-year-old James Dale Sharman says he died Friday of injuries from an explosion at the Delek Refining plant in Tyler.
A spokeswoman for Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas says another worker remains in critical condition.
Tyler Fire Capt. Jeff Akin says plant firefighters were still monitoring a small fire that could burn for days.

DENVER
— More people in Colorado have been sickened by tainted peanut butter, and the six new cases are linked to a shuttered Texas plant.
The Oregonian newspaper in Portland reports that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has linked the cases to the Plainview Peanut Co. in the Texas Panhandle. The Colorado victims were between the ages of 2 and 60. One had to be hospitalized, the newspaper reported.
