Site Offers More Alerts Than FDA

Not all the ISMP consumer warnings are crucial: One included news that a babysitter had given a child pet medicine. But the site is worth a check about once a month to see virtually all of the
’s critical alerts (such as a Dec. 11 warning about possible risks of kidney damage from drugs used for colonoscopy preparation) as well as news reports that might not make it to the FDA site. A Dec. 26 ISMP alert, for example, reported on seven people who Read the rest of this entry »

More than one million Pennsylvanians, or 8.2 percent of the population, lack health insurance, according to state survey released today.
The survey, conducted by the state Insurance Department, shows a 7.5 increase over 2004, but insurance commissioner Joel Ario said the numbers are likely much higher now considering the employment situation has recently deteriorated.

The findings give weight to critics who argue that media pressure to be young and slim is having a Read the rest of this entry »
