” (Personal Health, Jan. 27): I remember my last serving of dirt. I sneaked a sample from my mother’s potted rubber plant and realized the delicious taste was not worth the effort of sorting out the sandy grit with my teeth and tongue. It doesn’t embarrass me to think I used to eat dirt, however; I’ve always felt a bit guilty that the whole family had to be treated for intestinal worms after worms were discovered in my diapers.

Rendell orders health research agency be kept alive through November

DeLong Focuses on Fitness Through Zumba Classes

- Community members are making an extra effort to keep kids healthy.
DeLong Middle School staff members are leading “zumba” fitness classes. It's for students and staff every Monday and Thursday after school. They say zumba combines latin music with easy-to-follow moves.
“It's a lot of fun, we're getting sweaty and having fun. And kids and staff together, modeling exercise and having fun and moving,” says Teacher Carol Mayberry.

Police: Robbers cut through pharmacy roof to steal drugs

SWAMPSCOTT — Thieves sliced through the roof of a Walgreens and then an interior wall to steal drugs, Swampscott police said.
The robbery at 450 Paradise Road was reported to Swampscott police at 7:15 a.m. yesterday.
In a statement, Sgt. Tim Cassidy said that the “suspects gained entrance by cutting a hole in the roof and then cutting a hole in a wall inside the building to gain entrance into the pharmacy.

Gov. Proposes Dependent Health Insurance Through Age 29

     Among the many things Gov. David Paterson touched on in his State of the State Address Wednesday is health care.
     One of the governor’s proposals is to extend private family health insurance coverage to dependents up to age 29.
     “One out of three New Yorkers aged 18-29 have no medical insurance.  That’s unacceptable,” said Paterson.

RI girl dies after crashing through glass table

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — An 11-year-old Rhode Island girl has died from injuries caused when she crashed through a glass coffee table in her home.
Police say Christiana Sarty was home alone Thursday with her 8-year-old sister when she either fell or jumped through the table in their apartment in Providence.
The glass punctured her leg and Christiana collapsed after the two girls ran out looking for help. A neighbor called emergency rescuers.
