Want to lose weight? Don't count on pills

CHICAGO, Jan 22 (Reuters) – Users of Alli, the first
weight-loss drug approved for sale over-the-counter in the
United States, are finding what they likely suspected all
along: pills are no magic substitute for diet and exercise.
Yet as Americans engage in the New Year’s tradition of
resolving to shed pounds, the market for diet aids is expected
to remain firm, even as the economy is mired in recession.
Americans spend $30 billion a year on weight-loss Read the rest of this entry »

Most People Want Single-Payer Health Coverage

show that 59% of Americans want single-payer health coverage, and by over a 2 to 1 margin they think that it is more important to provide universal health care than to avoid a tax increase for it. An overwhelming majority believe the present system to be seriously flawed.
This is one of those issues where Congress acts independently of the wishes of the people. Congress is not giving serious consideration to a single-payer plan. Instead what Read the rest of this entry »

Want to make it to 120? Then get to shul once a week

Maybe it’s providence or God’s way of saying thank you, and maybe it’s the relaxed ambience at houses of prayer, but mosques, churches, synagogues and shrines apparently keep the angel of death away.
At least those are the findings of a study published recently by researchers at Yeshiva University and its medical school, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
In one of the most comprehensive studies ever of the connection between religious Read the rest of this entry »

I want my boyfriend to stop taking drugs

I am a 25-year-old man in a relationship with a 35-year-old man. We have been going out for three years and live together happily. There is one issue on which we disagree though: he has been using recreational drugs (mainly ecstasy) for a decade or so and I don’t like this. I have had terrible experiences with a sibling who takes drugs, and who caused my parents a huge amount of pain as a result.
My boyfriend maintains he was “slowing down” his Read the rest of this entry »
